11. Cookies Policy
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files (which often include a unique identifier) which are sent to a user’s computer (PC) or mobile phone from a website and are stored on the hard drive of the user’s device. When you return to that website on another day from your PC or mobile phone, the website can read your cookie and in effect, recognise you. Each website can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser’s preference allows it. Many websites do this whenever a user visits their website in order to report on website traffic.
There are different types of cookies which are used to do different things, such as letting you navigate between different pages on a website efficiently, remembering preferences you have given a website, saving your login details and passwords and improving your overall experience. Others are used to measure the number of the website visits.
Some cookies are allocated to your PC only for the duration of your visit to a website and these are session based cookies. These automatically expire when you close down your browser. Another type of cookies may remain on your hard drive after you leave our Website (“persistent” cookies).
Cookies may be served to your browser either directly by us (these are called first party cookies) or by third parties acting on our behalf (these are called third party cookies). First party cookies enable us to recognise you when you come back to our site and remember the seminars that you have registered for, both while you are viewing other areas on our Website and when you return to our site. We also use third party cookies such as Google Analytics.
11.1 Which cookies do we use?
We use different types of cookies to help our Website work well.
The main categories of cookies that we use are:
a. Cookies that are strictly necessary to operate the Website
Our Website uses some cookies which are strictly necessary to fulfil the users’ requests to become members of the AJFB FBLS, to renew their membership and/or to register for events or seminars to enable us to remember the contents of a user’s shopping cart” as the user moves through several pages on our Website. These include cookies that enable you to:
– stay logged in for an entire visit to the Website (to enable the registered users to save their login details and passwords to stay connected to the Website), and add items to a “shopping basket” (e.g. membership fees, fees for events and seminars) and keep them until you decide to check out.
b. Cookies which help us improve the Website
We also use cookies to count visitors to our Website and see how people are using our Website. They are known as “analytics cookies”, “tracing cookies” or “web beacons”. The information we collect using analytics cookies is anonymous and does not involve collecting the name or address of any user. The analytics cookies that we use only operate through our Website so that the data they collect is not shared with anyone else.
In addition, when we email you, we may place a tiny tag (also known as ‘tracking pixel’ or ‘web beacon’) on the email we send out. These do not collect any personal data, but they let us know how many people are opening and reading our emails.
The information we collect using analytics cookies is anonymous and does not involve collecting the name or address of any user. The analytics cookies that we use only operate through our Website so they and the data they collect are not shared with anyone else.
We use analytic cookies from the providers listed below. You can control our use of their cookies by clicking on the following link:
11.2. How to disable and manage cookies
Internet browsers allow users to manage their cookies, they can set their devices to accept all cookies, to let them know when a cookie has been set, or never to receive cookies.
Please note that if you disable cookies you may not be able to use all the features of our Website. It would be impossible use our online shop without cookies enabled, as the shopping basket function would not work.
Please note that if you prevent the use of cookies using either of these systems, you will no longer be included in any tracking data from those tools across all sites (not just this Website).
You can learn more about cookies and how to manage them at www.aboutcookies.org, which will enable you to approve, disable and control cookies described in paragraph b. above. However, we believe that we do not need your consent to use the cookies which we have identified as those “strictly necessary” to enable us to provide you with any service which you have requested from us to be delivered online (described in paragraph a. above)
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy in the future. We will post at the top of this Privacy and Cookies Policy the date on which it was most recently updated and we recommend that you revisit this page regularly to keep informed of our current privacy practices. Any personal data we collect from you will remain subject to the privacy commitments given to you at the time of its collection, unless you consent otherwise.
