In Memoriam Hamish ADAMSON, OBE, MA (Oxon)

Hamish was the Society’s First Academic Director, he died in London on 22 October 2022, aged 87 years.
Appointed by the Board as it first Academic Director in the mid 1990s, he continued in that role for almost a decade and then supported his successor. He gave his support to the Society’s events. The last time was at the Résidence in London for the Maritime Colloquium in June this year.
Educated in the North Of England at Stoneyhurst College, Lancashire, Hamish then studied at Lincoln College, Oxford. A native of Perth he was proud of his French and English and Scottish grandparents. He was a gifted linguist, with particularly meticulous French, but also Spanish, Italian and German.
He qualified and practised as a solicitor in England in a firm in the West End of London. He became International Director Of The Law Society Of England and Wales for many years until retirement . He was awarded the OBE for his major contribution in this international area.
The Society sends ‘ Condoléances ‘ to his sister and all his family, with great appreciation of Hamish’s commitment to and support of the Society over more than a quarter century.
