Lord Ericht is a judge in the Scottish Supreme Courts.

He is also a judge in the UK Competition Tribunal, the UK Upper Tribunal (Tax and Chancery Chamber) and the Scottish Upper Tribunal.

He is President of the Scottish section of the FBLS.

He is also the Scottish Judge on the Franco-British Irish Judicial Cooperation Committee and in 2019 he undertook a stage at the Cour de Cassation and Conseil d'Etat.

He was a part-time lecturer at the Universite de Lorraine from 1993 to 2016.
