Lundi 27 janvier 2025, l'Association des Juristes Franco-Britanniques / Franco-British Lawyers’ Society (AJFB/FBLS) a organisé sa traditionnelle réception annuelle à la Chambre des Lords, à l’invitation de The Right Hon. The Lord BURNETT of MALDON PC DL, ancien Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales. Nous avons eu l’honneur d’y être chaleureusement accueillis par le Lord Speaker, The Right Hon. The Lord McFALL of ALCLUITH.

A la suite du discours de Madame l’ambassadrice de France au Royaume-Uni, S.E. Hélène DUCHENE, « honorary patron » de l’association, Monsieur le procureur général près la Cour de cassation, Rémy HEITZ, venu spécialement à Londres pour cette soirée, en sa qualité également de « patron » de l'AJFB/FBLS, a prononcé un vibrant discours, mettant en lumière le rôle crucial du dialogue franco-britannique et les missions accomplies par l’AJFB/FBLS pour faciliter ces échanges. L’ensemble des membres de l’association lui est profondément reconnaissant pour son soutien inestimable et infaillible, tant en France, à Paris, qu’en Angleterre, à Londres, par sa présence à nos côtés lors des moments déterminants de la vie de notre structure.

The Right Hon. Lady ARDEN of HESWALL DBE, présidente de l’AJFB/FBLS, a présenté ses vœux au monde judiciaire franco-britannique, réunissant les représentants des juridictions et acteurs des différents ordres professionnels. Elle a souligné le remarquable bilan de l’association au cours de l’année 2024 à travers les nombreux événements organisés et notre rôle primordial dans les échanges juridiques franco-britanniques. Tout comme Catherine PEDAMON, vice-présidente de l’AJFB/FBLS (à la tête de la section d’Angleterre et du Pays-de-Galles), elle a également dressé un tableau ambitieux des projets à venir pour 2025.

L'association a également été particulièrement honorée par la présence et la participation de nombreux représentants du monde judiciaire et diplomatique, parmi lesquels :

Lord PHILLIPS of WORTH MATRAVERS et Lord HOPE of CRAIGHEAD nous ont également fait l’amitié de prendre part à cette rencontre devenue si symbolique en début d’année dans le développement des rapports bilatéraux entre nos pays et nos systèmes juridiques.

 

L’événement s’est prolongé par un dîner convivial à l’Athenaeum Club, à l'invitation de Ian FORRESTER, ancien président de l’AJFB/FBLS.

Cette soirée a permis de riches échanges entre théoriciens, praticiens, étudiants et passionnés de la collaboration juridique franco-britannique, dans un esprit également intergénérationnel. Elle cristallise l’espoir et l’ambition pour le futur de cette coopération, rappelant l’importance de perpétuer ces traditions porteuses d’ouverture sur de multiples horizons professionnels et humains, le tout avec la touche d'humour, so British, de Ian FORRESTER. 

 

Cette soirée n'aurait pu avoir lieu sans l'implication sans faille des services de l'ambassade de France et plus particulièrement Lise JAULIN, magistrate de liaison française au Royaume-Uni, de Gaëlle BELLET, cheffe de cabinet du Procureur Général près la Cour de cassation, de Maggie STEVENSON, du cabinet de Lord Burnett, sans oublier tout le travail réalisé par Charles du COUËDIC de KERERANT, Secrétaire général de l'AJFB/FBLS, et Carole HOPE, trésorière de l'AJFB/FBLS, de Simon HORSINGTON, vice-président fondateur et honoraire de l’AJFB/FBLS et de Frédéric GOLDBERG, président de la section française de l’AJFB.

On Monday 27th of January 2025, the Franco-British Lawyers’ Society (AJFB/FBLS) held its traditional annual reception at the House of Lords, at the invitation of The Right Hon. The Lord BURNETT of MALDON PC DL, former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales. We had the great honour of being warmly welcomed by the Lord Speaker, The Right Hon. The Lord McFALL of ALCLUITH.

Following the speech delivered by H.E. Hélène DUCHÊNE, French Ambassador to the United Kingdom and honorary patron of the association, Rémy HEITZ, Prosecutor General at the French Court of Cassation, who travelled to London especially for the occasion, in his capacity as a patron of AJFB/FBLS, gave a powerful speech highlighting the crucial role of Franco-British legal relations and the missions undertaken by AJFB/FBLS to facilitate these exchanges. The association and its members are deeply grateful for his invaluable and unwavering support, both in France, in Paris, and in England, in London, through his presence at key moments in the life of our organization.

The Right Hon. Lady ARDEN of HESWALL DBE, President of AJFB/FBLS, extended her New Year’s wishes to the Franco-British legal community, bringing together representatives of the various courts and legal professionals of our respective countries. She underscored the remarkable achievements of the association in 2024, through numerous events organised and our pivotal role in strengthening Franco-British legal cooperation. Alongside Catherine PÉDAMON, Vice-President of the AJFB/FBLS (England & Wales section), she also outlined an ambitious roadmap for 2025.

The evening continued with a convivial dinner at the Athenaeum Club, hosted by Ian FORRESTER, former President of AJFB/FBLS. This gathering fostered meaningful exchanges between legal scholars, practitioners, students, and enthusiasts, across generations. The event embodied both the hope and the ambition for the future of this collaboration, emphasizing the importance of preserving these traditions that open doors to multiple professional and human perspectives—all enhanced by Ian Forrester’s signature British humour.

This exceptional evening would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the French Embassy's team, especially Lise JAULIN, French Liaison Magistrate in the UK, Gaëlle BELLET, Chief of Staff to the Prosecutor General at the French Court of Cassation, Maggie STEVENSON, from Lord Burnett’s office, as well as the dedicated efforts of:
