All law students, trainees and recently qualified lawyers are invited to attend the Forum organised in conjunction with The University of Law. Members of the Panel will address different aspects of legal careers in the UK and France.


All talks will be in English but questions in French are welcome.

Panel: 

* Simon HORSINGTON, Barrister Grays Inn, 4-5 Gray's Inn Square Chambers. Former Legal Director Fidelity International, Global Attorney PIMCO, Counsel Regulator IMRO, Founder member of and Vice Président d’Honneur of FBLS, Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, de l'Ordre National du Mérite et de l’Ordre du Mérite Maritime.

Dr. Catherine PEDAMONWestminster Law School, University of Westminster Programme Director, Commercial Pathways LLM courses, Senior Lecturer in Law, Avocat aux Barreaux de Paris et New York, LLMs Harvard Law School & Panthéon-Assas Former-President, England and Wales Section of the AJFB/FBLS.

Lise JAULINLiaison judge in United Kingdom and Ireland in London/Magistrat de liaison à Londres pour le Royaume-Uni et l’Irlande. Lise JAULIN is a graduate in criminal law and international law of the universities of Poitiers (France) and Cambridge (UK). She has been a French prosecutor and judge since 2008.

* Jean-François LE GALPartner at Pinsent Masons London, Barrister (England & Wales) and Avocat au Barreau de Paris. He started his career in Paris before moving to London in 2011. Specialises in international arbitration and multi-jurisdictional proceedings. He acts as counsel/advocate in English and/or French. Sits as an arbitrator and has acted as Chairman of an Arbitral Tribunal, Sole Arbitrator and Co-Arbitrator. Teaches Comparative & International Dispute Resolution,and Contract Law, at PSL (Dauphine) University.

Dr. Leonardo CARPENTIERI, Partner in the Dispute Resolution team at Rosenblatt. He joined the firm in December 2023 in order to set up its international arbitration practice. He is admitted as a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England & Wales and as Avocat à la Cour in Paris, France. Leonardo has 14 years of experience working both in France and the UK in international arbitration proceedings relating to energy and infrastructure projects. His fields of expertise include the energy, oil and gas and construction sectors, in particular in the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

Colleen HALLSenior Associate in the Family & Divorce team at Kingsley Napley LLP. She studied Law and French at the University of Leeds, including a year studying at the Université de Nancy 2. She qualified as a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England & Wales in 2017 after which she undertook a secondment at leading French family law firm, bwg associés. Colleen advises on all aspects of family law issues including divorce, dissolution, finances, child arrangements and pre and post nuptial agreements, particularly cases with cross-border issues (both France and elsewhere).

Sally OSBORNPast President of the Notaries Society; retired English solicitor with a London practice where she set up the “French Department”, retired Notary Public.

Beatriz MARTINEZinternational policy adviser for Europe and Central Asia at the Law Society of England and Wales. Beatriz is responsible for building and managing relationships with bar associations, law societies, firms, businesses and governments across Europe and Central Asia, as well as supporting members accessing European and Central Asian markets. Before joining the Law Society, Beatriz worked at the International Bar Association (IBA), and at the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Madrid. She holds a dual bachelor’s degree in law and political science from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (Madrid, Spain). She also holds a dual master’s degree from IE University in access to the legal profession and business law.

Charles BARROISassociate in the Banking and Finance team in Gide's London office. He advises financial institutions and companies on their multi-jurisdictional banking transactions and project finance. He also works on securitisation transactions, particularly involving trade receivables. Charles graduated from the University of Warwick and Paris I: Panthéon-Sorbonne, where he studied law and business and obtained a Master of Laws (LLM) in French and European law. He qualified as a Solicitor in England and Wales in 2023.
