Screening & Debate – Anatomy of a Fall

Join us on 1 April at 6:30pm at the King’s College London Theatre for an evening exploring the fascinating intersection between cinema and criminal law.

We will begin with a screening of Anatomy of a Fall, the award‑winning courtroom drama that blurs the lines between objective truth and subjective interpretation. The film’s meticulous exploration of doubt, narrative construction, and the psychology of guilt sets the stage for a compelling legal conversation.

Following the screening, a panel of Franco‑British practitioners and academics will lead a debate on a central question raised by the film:

To what extent should a criminal court rely on indirect evidence and psychological profiling when determining guilt?

In an era where forensic science, behavioural analysis, and narrative framing play increasingly prominent roles in criminal proceedings, the issue has never been more relevant. Cases like the one depicted in Anatomy of a Fall challenge us to consider where the limits of inference lie, how far courts can go in interpreting a defendant’s inner life, and what safeguards are needed to preserve fairness and objectivity.

This promises to be an engaging, thought‑provoking evening bringing together lawyers, students, academics, and cinema enthusiasts from both sides of the Channel.
