The Hague Convention of 2019 on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters: Should the UK sign up?

The Hague Convention of 2019 on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters (known as ‘Hague 2019’) is a multilateral Private International Law convention which establishes common rules to facilitate the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments between Contracting States of the Convention.

The UK Government is currently consulting on whether the UK should accede to the Convention: Hague Convention of 2 July 2019 on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil or Commercial Matters (Hague 2019) – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). The consultation closes on 9 February 2023. This timely webinar will have presentations from the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), the UK Ministry of Justice and academic and legal practitioners on the convention, what it means and whether the UK should agree to join it.
